birdman68 reacted to rapidlock in 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan PCM replacement with Autel
This is a little video I made this morning while programming a replacement PCM (used) into a 2013 Grand Caravan. Sorry I wasn't too chatty first thing this morning.

I did this using the Maxisys Mini. It showed a failure during the programming cycle, and for some reason it does that frequently since I last updated (it used to do it flawlessly). I find that when it says it failed, all you need to do is hit the "Reset ECU" function and you're good to go. After you finish the programming cycle, make use you run a scan and clear DTC (diagnostic trouble codes).
Now if the customer supplied a brand spanking new PCM, this will NOT work. You need to flash with via J2534.

birdman68 reacted to hangtime in 2007+ GM Radio replacement
Some can be done with just the Tech 2, most if not all after 2007 will require a subscription to TIS2Web and an interface device such as Tech2, MDI, or some J2534 devices will do it.
As the subscription costs $50/day, it's an expensive process. . . usually more than what they paid for the radio. On top of that you'll have be able to figure out the RPO code of the radio they're trying to install (assuming they don't show up with a copy of the sticker from the vehicle they came out of), or just try all of the ones listed until you get one that works. Lots of fun crap like the volume will be stuck at an uncomfortable level or the door chime will be too loud or on all the time if you set it up under the wrong RPO.
In short, it sucks. Charge accordingly. I quote $200 for ones that require Tis2web but nobody has said yes to that other than a guy with a decked out Denali that wanted a nav/backup camera radio unlocked. Everyone else I just suggest they put in an aftermarket head unit.

This is a tip I found , may help in the event skim code is being a challenge to obtain.
Not sure of year coverage but may help one of us.
I always disconnect SKIM module and go to function of
changing VIN. When no SKIM module offline DRB does not
bother you asking for PIN and let you change VIN like car
has no SKIM. After changing VIN connect SKIM back and start
the car. I have change more than 100 ECMs in recent year and
    this method never failed.

J2534 is truly only for emissions mandate ,but on some platforms we are able to do more modules or 'things"
I will sometimes call the guys I purchased my j box from before I attempt something just to have a direction.

it is my understanding that neutral mode enables the used pcm to be put into another vehicle and will learn the password sent via smarta
Your confusing me, but what was the original complaint? What scanner are you using and what modules are stating a state of health?

Yes,  you are setting up the options or original configuration. You need to know the rpo codes on some, which are in the glove box or spare tire cover, deck lid etc.
You will move a cursor over the  asterisk  selecting the option , the tech2 does this or emulator ,it's pretty easy.
Now on new stuff, i'm sure it's a whole new ball game i haven't played yet. Seeing that  the tech 2 doesn't work on them anymore..
I have heard on some used ones they are locked and you can not change options yet they will get the vehicle running again.
